Manti (Turkish Dumplings)

Have I told you that I heart dumplings? Wait, I got that wrong — It’s more like I heart heart heart dumplings!

After reading about Brian and Michelle’s dumpling party a few weeks ago, I’ve been craving a dumpling party of my own. Unfortunately, I really have no excuse for making more potstickers because I still have a huge batch sitting in the freezer, from a dumpling party not too long ago. (And yes, I can still call it a dumpling party, even if it was a dumpling party of one. It’s like an army of one, only less violent and more delicious.)

Curried Winter Squash Soup

Winter has definitely arrived in San Francisco. I conclude this not from any sudden changes in weather, but from the millions of holiday sale signs and the constant barrage of holiday jingles everywhere you go. My conclusion is also supported by the appearance of winter veggies in our farm box – winter squashes, sweet potatoes, leeks, etc. What? No kale?? That’s right – no kale yet! This makes me sad (I’ve been wanting to make a big pot of caldo verde for a while now) but probably makes numerous other subscribers happy.

Beef Stew with Olive Oil Potatoes and Gremolata

With winter fog plus the added gloominess of a recent oil spill hanging over my lovely city, there’s really no better time for a hearty stew involving an animal of the land! If you know me, you’ll know that me eating beef is a pretty rare event – I generally abide by the principle that I’ll eat beef, or most meats, only when my body really craves it. Me cooking red meat at home is an even rarer occurrence. So, listen up! This is probably one of the only beef recipes you’ll get out of me!

Cantonese Steamed Fish with Ginger and Scallions

Would you eat a fish that’s blue?

The other day when I was at the Asian market, I randomly decided to be a good Chinese girl and attempt to steam a fish at home, Cantonese-style. If you’ve ever eaten with my family (or any Cantonese family), you already know that steamed fishes are one of these standard dishes that everyone born in Hong Kong is pretty much required to love. (If you don’t like steamed fish, you bring shame to the family!!)

101 Gnocchi

One of my favorite cooking sites is 101 Cookbooks. I’ve only tried about 5 or 6 of Heidi’s recipes so far but they have all proven to be delicious. Not only that, but the recipes are also super-accurate, which wins big points in my book.

The gnocchi recipe on 101 has been on my list for a while. Lucky for me, our veggie subscription recently started raining potatoes on us, so it was prime time to try it out. While these turned out great, I think next time, it would probably be better to buy starchier potatoes from the store instead of using the creamy varieties we get from the farm box.

This last week was one of intensive eating out, due to a birthday last week (meaning lots of celebratory going out), my dad visiting over the weekend (meaning lots of free meals), and Nathan’s parents coming up from Santa Cruz this morning for brunch.
